Qu’est-ce que la coenzyme Q10 ?

La coenzyme Q10 ou ubiquinone se trouve naturellement dans toutes les cellules du corps, plus précisément dans les mitochondries. C’est une substance semblable à une vitamine. Chez l'homme, contrairement aux animaux, l'ubiquinone se synthétise avec seulement 10 unités d'isoprène, d'où le Q10. Il est synthétisé dans l'organisme à partir de l'acide mévalonique et des dérivés de tyrosine et de phénylalanine. Cependant, cette quantité n'est pas toujours suffisante et continue de baisser avec l’âge. Cette chute est la cause du vieillissement.

Lorsqu'une cellule a besoin d'énergie, elle convertit les graisses, les protéines, les glucides et l'alcool en ATP (adénosine triphosphate) qui stocke cette énergie sous une forme chimique. La cellule décompose la molécule d'ATP et libère de l'énergie. L'ensemble du processus se déroule à l'intérieur de la cellule, dans les mitochondries, considérées comme les centrales énergétiques de la cellule.  La coenzyme Q10 est un agent métabolique.
