How to perform the test?

Drink about 100ml of water on an empty stomach in which you have dissolved ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Baking soda is a base that will quickly react with the acid in your stomach to create a gas (carbon dioxide).

! Start the stopwatch when you ingest the water + baking soda solution!

If you burp noticeably within the first 20 seconds and you suffer daily from burning in the throat, burning in the esophagus, bad taste in the mouth, discomfort in lying position without a thick pillow, it is possible that you suffer from hyperchlorhydria.
If you burp noticeably within the first 2 minutes (and better within the first minute), you likely have enough hydrochloric acid in your stomach.
If you burp between 2 minutes and 5 minutes, hypochlorhydria is possible.
If the burping occurs beyond 5 minutes, you are most likely suffering from a lack of gastric acidity.

Repeat the test for 3 consecutive days to get an accurate picture of your situation.
